At last night’s annual spring league meeting the captains voted in favor of requiring wooden bats for use in NJCSL sanctioned games. The feeling was that composite and doubled-walled bats increase the batted ball speed to the point where it is too dangerous for this league. The goal of this league is to foster Christian fellowship through softball and not to win at all costs.
Only wooden softball bats will be allowed for use in NJCSL sanctioned games. Wooden baseball bats are not allowed. The bat must be stamped the word ‘Softball’ to be legal for use in NJCSL sanctioned games. Bats range in price starting at about $17 per bat and go upward. It is recommended that each bring at least two bats to a game as wooden bats can break during the game. See rule #1.9 regarding the use of wooden bats.
Good luck in the new season.
Regards,
Gary

With deep sadness I must report that Ed Burkhart’s wife of 33 years passed away May 1st losing her year-long battle with sarcoma cancer. There will be a memorial service at Christ Episcopal Church in Budd Lake on Saturday, May 21 @ 1pm- where the congregation, friends and family will celebrate her life.
Ed is a good friend, a long time NJCSL family member and the league’s Treasurer. Please join me in keeping the Burkhart family in our prayers.
In Christ,
Gary Lieberman

As you know it is the practice of the league to designate a portion of the league fees to do the Lord’s work. Last year due to the vacancy in the league commissioner’s role we did not designate our benevolence to a worthy charity. To that end we have made up for that oversight this year. I am happy to announce that the league has forwarded a check for $800.00 to Morris Habitat for Humanity in satisfaction of our 2009 benevolence. In addition, we also sent a check for $800.00 to the Morris Interfaith Food Pantry as our 2010 benevolence.
I would like to thank everyone who participates in the league and shares the Lord’s fellowship. It is through this ministry called softball that we join together in doing the Lord’s work. To all NJCSL members; Merry Christmas and may God Bless you and your families.
Gary Lieberman, League Commissioner
