Playoff Information
The Competitive League is divided into two conferences named the A and B Leagues. Each conference will have their own play-off schedule and
champion. Each game will be assigned a date and a field and a rain date and rain date field. If a team cannot play on their assigned date and wishes to postpone, they take the risk of receiving a forfeit
if the game is not played by the next round. All efforts will be made to schedule the games on the field of the team with the better regular season record. This is not a guarantee and some games made
be scheduled on the visiting team’s field or on a neutral field.
The league uses a point system to determine league standings and play-off eligibility. For regular season games each team will be awarded two
points for a win, one point for a tie and no points for loss. One point will be deducted for each forfeit a team receives. Teams are encouraged to complete their scheduled games to afford themselves the best
chance of gaining play-off eligibility. Teams with two or more forfeits are not eligible for play-off berths.
Playoff eligibility is determined by the number of points a team has in the league, the conference and finally the division. Teams finishing
1st in their respective divisions will automatically be awarded the 1st and 2nd seeds in their conference. The 2nd place teams from each division will be awarded seeds 3 and 4 by order of their season
records. The team with the most regular season points will be the home team for the first round. The home team for the first game of the World Series will be determined by the team with the better
regular season record. After that World Series games will alternate home teams. Playoff games will be scheduled on the home team’s field when possible.
Playoff pairings within each conference’s play-offs are based on seed positions as follows:
- 1st Round: 1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 3
- World Series: The two Division Champions play a best two out three win World Series.
Tiebreakers for final standings will be determined as follows:
Tiebreakers: First by the number of league points, conference points, division points, head to head record and finally a
coin toss. The web site’s standings page automatically makes these determinations.
At the end of the year, it seems, we always have teams who didn’t play a game that has playoff implications during
the regular season and want to extend the season to get the game in. This is not allowed. All regular season games
must be played by the end of the regular season. Every year we also run into situations where teams cannot agree
on a reschedule date and one team enters a forfeit against the other team for that game. Forfeits are only for when
a game is already scheduled and both captains have already agreed to play the game on a particular date. A forfeit
will occur only when one team cannot field enough players for an already agreed to game. There cannot be a forfeit
if both captains have previously agreed to play the game on that date. Difficulties in rescheduling a game does not
constitute a forfeit! All forfeits come under league review and any entered in this manner will be reversed.
